Janet E. Simmons, age 86, of Mineral City, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025, surrounded by her family, at the Country Club Rehabilitation Campus, Dover.
Born July 11, 1939, in Moundsville, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late R. Wilmer and Edna (Powell) McCombs. She attended Moundsville High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, Ronald E. "Ron" Simmons. They were married in 1956, and celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year. Ron and Janet moved to Dover in 1967, when Ron took a job with the former Reeves Steel Company. They later purchased a farm near Mineral City.
Janet was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother - a homemaker - who helped with the hard work of the farm while also growing a successful Avon business. She was a talented seamstress who made clothing and did alterations for family and friends. Janet also helped with the decorating and serving for numerous wedding receptions over the years.
She was a long-time, faithful member of the New Philadelphia Church of Christ, where she taught the Teenage Girls' Bible Study Class. Janet also volunteered for more than 20 years at the Mineral City Elementary School. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling with Ron, often visiting family.
In addition to her husband, Ron, Janet will be dearly missed by her children, Russ E. (Barb) Simmons Sr. and Gail E. (Larry) Chew, both of Mineral City; her grandchildren, Sara (Marshall) Amodio, Russell (Samantha) Simmons Jr. and Brian (fiancee, Katie Wilson) Rex; her great-grandchildren, Paul Amodio and Alexis Simmons.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Alice Mercer.
A private service will be held in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover; Paul Pryor will officiate. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park.
Contributions in Janet's memory may be made to the New Philadelphia Church of Christ, 749 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
