With sorrow, we announce the passing of Janet Eileen Smith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Janet passed away on July 6, 2025, at her home in Sweet Springs, MO, at the age of 68.
Janet was born on January 6, 1957, to Cedric "Red" Meador and Emma Margaret Hall Meador in Sedalia, Missouri. Janet grew up in Sweet Springs, and after finishing high school, she went on to study Library Science and Vocational Home Economics at Central Missouri State University. It was there that Janet met her future husband, Victor Glenn Smith, Jr. Victor and Janet were united in matrimony on December 21, 1976, and celebrated 48 years of marriage prior to her passing.
After graduating from CMSU, Janet worked as a paraprofessional for children with special needs in the Odessa School District. She finished her career and retired from the Crest Ridge School District after serving several years as their high school librarian. She enjoyed sharing knowledge with her students and touched many young lives over her tenure working in the school systems.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Cedric and Emma Margaret Meador; and her sister, Diane Williams.
Janet is survived by her loving husband, Victor Smith Jr. of Sweet Springs, MO, her daughter, Emily Crystal (Jack) Buckner of Belton, MO; her two sons, Victor Grant Smith of Santa Fe, NM, and Adam Leslie (Melissa) Smith of Kansas City, MO; and her three beloved grandchildren, Victoria "Tori" Lynn, Shawn Michael, and James Emery Buckner of Belton, MO. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.
Janet loved being a mom to not only her own three children, Emily, Grant, and Adam, but also many of their friends over the years, as well as many of the students at the school systems she worked in. She loved being a grandmother, often attending her grandchildren's dance performances while they were young and sharing pictures and stories of them over the years with her friends and co-workers. She enjoyed her retirement by spending time with her husband, watching shows, and exploring worlds within the many books she would read.
