Janet Whatcott Thomas, 60, passed away surrounded by family in her home April 11, 2022 after a courageous 4 year battle with leiomyosarcoma cancer. Born February 4, 1962 in Murray, Utah to Cyril and Wanda Freeman Whatcott, she was raised the 7th of 9 children. She graduated from Murray High School with the class of 1980. She served in the LDS Canada Vancouver mission in 1984-1985, where she made many lifelong friends and fond memories.
Janet married her eternal sweetheart, Allan Nathan Thomas, February 14, 1987 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
Janet's career evolved as a secretary in legal, corporate, and elementary schools before going back to school and earning her associates degree from Salt Lake Community College in 2009. In 2012, she landed her dream job as an executive assistant with the emergency management team at the University of Utah Hospital. She LOVED her job for the last 10 years as part of the team and developed many friendships throughout the entire U of U Hospital system.
She had a strong love of the gospel, which she expressed through many church callings. She served as relief society president, primary president, scout coordinator, gospel doctrine teacher. Her favorite calling was as a relief society teacher in the Cottonwood 11th Ward. She also enjoyed her time in the ward choir.
Her life focus was on her children and grandchildren, and she leaves a legacy of love for her family to follow. Her time spent living with her grandchildren was special and fostered a relationship that will always be remembered. She especially enjoyed her daily teasing, laughter, tea parties, cartoons and snuggles with her grandbabies. Having Fenton around the last few months has added even more joy to Janet's life.
Janet had a big heart and deep love and appreciation for others. She was always supportive and inclusive of all. Her loving and playful spirit brought many people together, and her maternal nature was extended to many of her nieces and nephews and friends of her children. Through many large family dinners hosted at the house, to Lake Powell trips and more, she was always trying to gather and lift the spirits of all she came in contact with.
She was gracefully welcomed at the threshold of eternity by her mother, father and beloved sister DeAnne. Survived by husband Allan; Children: Brittany (James) Parthemer, Bryce (Jessie), Lindsay (Matt) Baxter, Ryan (Katie); Grandchildren: Macie, Spencer, Colton, and Fenton. Siblings: Linda Reeves, MarGene Serbousek, Dixie Bryson, SuzAnne Maxfield, Vickie Callister, Bruce and Seth Whatcott, and special sisters in life: Jill Davidson, Sonia Whatcott, and Cherylene Tolino.
The family wants to express their immense gratitude to the Huntsman Cancer Institute for their loving and devoted care, with special thanks to Dr. Anna Chalmers, Melissa Shepherd, and Lyndi Osoro.

Janet is an amazing woman! Besides being in the same ward when our kids were little, I have had the opportunity to connect several times while working at the hospital. Her courage and optimism during her cancer journey was exemplary. She always had a smile on her face even when I knew that her body was so tired. Our condolences to your families at this time. Comfort and reassurance comes as we know we will see her again! We love you! The McAfee Family
