Janet Irene Unger, known to her loved ones as Jan, peacefully passed away on October 25, 2023, at the age of 91 in Tucson, Arizona.
She was born on October 10, 1932, in Milton Township, Minnesota, to Walter and Pauline Rossi. Jan will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. She married Benjamin Unger in October, 1951. They met at NSP in Dodge Center, MN and moved to Cannon Falls in 1954.
Jan was an amazing woman who brought immense joy to her family. Her greatest happiness came from spending time with her three children, Dan Unger, Lynn (Jim) Gardner and Bruce (Kerry) Unger, as well as her four grandchildren, Ryan (Mara) Gardner, Michael Unger, Steven Unger, Melissa (Patrick) Johnson and eight great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Sebastian, and Santiago Gardner, Francis and Faustina Johnson, Ike and Ian Unger, and Dylan Prinzing. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ben; son, Dan; her parents; all four sisters and spouses.
Janet had a fulfilling career. She served as a dispatch operator for Cannon Falls Police Department and school bus driver for the Cannon Falls Area Schools. She also worked as a teller for Community Resource Bank in Cannon Falls. She had many other jobs along the way.
Janet graduated from West Concord High School and cherished the memories she made during her educational journey. She was in many clubs and organizations.
Janet was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cannon Falls. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a member of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, and Cannon Falls Hospital Auxiliary.
Jan enjoyed playing card games, Bingo, and taking trips to various casinos. During Covid she got into puzzles. She had 131 puzzles at her time of death. In her younger years she loved to bowl, camp, work in the garden, canning, and snow birding in Texas and Arizona.
Celebration of Life for Jan will be on Saturday, May 25 at 1:00 pm, with family time from 12:00-1:00 pm, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cannon Falls. Burial will be at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jan's memory to the First Congregational Church, Cannon Falls Food Shelf, or the Cannon Falls Hospital Auxiliary.
