Vondrasek, Janet Elizabeth (Angst) – It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Janet, Monday, November 17, 2025. She was 86 years of age.
Janet was born June 15, 1939, to the late Joseph and Hedwig (Henige) Angst of Maple Grove Mi. She grew up surrounded by a loving family and was the only girl born smack in the middle of five brothers whom she adored. Janet was united in marriage to Donald Vondrasek in 1969. He preceded her in death in 2004. Janet wasn't just a mom and sister; she was a friend to everyone she ever met. Janet spent her entire life in the communities she cherished-growing up in Maple Grove, later living in New Lothrop, and ultimately making her home in Chesaning for more than 50 years. Her roots were deep, and her presence was a constant source of warmth and stability for all who knew her.
She was the heart of her neighborhood and cherished by all who knew her. A kind and welcoming spirit, Janet touched the lives of many through her involvement in her community and her dedication to her family. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Seven Sisters Apostolate, a valued member of the Chesaning River Rapids District Library Book Club and a passionate participant in S.P.R.E.A.D., where she made lasting connections and shared her warmth with others. For many years, Janet devoted herself to caring for children, working with the lunch program and later as a paraprofessional at Our Lady School's preschool. She continued her service to the community at Chesaning Union High School, first as a substitute secretary and then as the beloved "gate lady" who greeted students and parents with a smile every day. She worked at Sarah's Attic in Chesaning, where she was loved by both coworkers and customers alike. Her work career concluded with being a driver for LaClair Sales now Garber. Janet was remembered for her smile, her kindness, and her ability to make friends with anyone she met. Her gentle spirit, friendly nature, and love for all will be deeply missed. Above all, she lived a life guided by her faith in God, striving each day to follow in His footsteps. Janet was a woman with a generous heart and a quiet strength. She created a home filled with love, kindness, and steadfast support. So many people loved her-and were deeply loved by her in return.
She is survived by her devoted children, Shannon (Mark) Kostrzewa of Plymouth and Jon Vondrasek of Novi. Janet's greatest joy was being a grandmother, and she leaves behind her adored and adoring grandchildren: Matthew Kostrzewa, Andrew Kostrzewa, Jaden Vondrasek, and Lily Vondrasek. She is also survived by her brother Thomas (Charlene) Angst, her sister-in-law Charlotte (Carl) DeGeus, Nelda Angst, Janice Angst, Ange Angst, and Evelyn Angst; and many extended family members and friends whose lives she touched. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews, as well as her dear neighbors, who were like family to her. She leaves behind friends from all stages of her life-school friends, work colleagues, and those she met through her volunteer work. She will also be dearly missed by her special friend, Dave Hawes, who held a special place in her heart.
Janet was also preceded in death by four of her five brothers-Cletus, Clarence, Dallas, and Norman Angst-as well as her infant sister, Dorothy.
