Obituary published on Legacy.com by Misiuk Funeral Home from Nov. 18 to Nov. 19, 2025.
Jack R. Hobson, 95, of Chesaning, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a life marked by service, devotion, and quiet strength.
Jack was the kind of man who could fix anything. Whether working with his hands, solving a problem, or helping someone in need, he approached every task with patience, skill, and heart. His life reflected a deep commitment to craftsmanship and hard work. He loved the outdoors-especially fishing on Drummond Island, a place that brought him great joy throughout his life.
A proud veteran, Jack served honorably in the Korean War as a radio transmitter. After returning home, he became one of the first veterans to attend Michigan State University on the GI Bill, earning a degree in agricultural sciences. He began his career as an agriculture teacher, later wrote several agricultural articles for the local newspaper, and ultimately worked as a field manager for Aunt Jane Foods in New Lothrop, where he spent many years before retiring.
Jack's love of agriculture extended well beyond his career. Each summer, he cultivated a huge, beautiful garden filled with produce and flowers that were eagerly anticipated by the community. Neighbors and friends looked forward to the bounty he shared, a living testament to his knowledge, generosity, and devotion to the land. His garden was not only a source of nourishment but also a symbol of the care and joy he poured into everything he touched.
Faith was central to Jack's life. For more than five decades, he was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Chesaning. He sang in the choir and served wherever he was needed, offering a steady presence and a warm, familiar voice. A 2006 trip to Israel deeply renewed his faith, and from then on he spent time each day in scripture and devotion. His devotional book served as both journal and guide-each page marked by the intentional, faithful way he lived.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 64 years, Eleanor; two sons; a grandson; his parents; all of his siblings; and a brother who gave his life in World War II-a sacrifice Jack honored throughout his life.
He is survived by his children, Steve (Sue) Hobson, Vickie (Denver) Bennett, and Lisa (Shawn) Curtiss; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry forward his spirit of kindness, resilience, and devotion.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Comfort Care of Chesaning and Amara Hospice of Michigan for their compassionate care and support. Jack was cremated according to his wishes.
A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 11:00am. There will be no formal visitation, but all are warmly invited to a luncheon immediately following the service to gather, share memories, and celebrate Jack's life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or Amara Hospice of Michigan. You may light a memorial candle or share a memory at misiukfuneralhome.com.
Jack was always there-ready to help, ready to serve, ready to sing. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
