Janet Weidauer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Powers Funeral Home - Pomeroy on Nov. 30, 2025.
Janet Weidauer, age 78, of Pocahontas, formerly of Pomeroy, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Arlington Place in Pocahontas.

Janet Marie Peterson was born on May 19, 1947, to Maynard and Izetta (Nordlund) Peterson. She attended school at Fonda and graduated in 1965. She then attended nursing school at Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. Janet married Tom Weidauer on June 6, 1970, and settled on a farm in rural Pomeroy and lived there until they moved to Pomeroy in 2019. They were blessed with three children: Greg, Brent, and Pamela. Janet was a devoted mother, helped on the farm, and was actively involved in the church. She attended lots of sporting events for her children and grandchildren, and she loved playing basketball with her children and grandchildren. There was even a basketball hoop in the living room. Janet was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2001 and bravely fought her battle with a very difficult disease.

As a woman of faith, Janet participated in bible studies and was a prayer warrior. She was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church and played the organ at the church for almost 50 years. Her biggest purpose in life was to lead as many people as possible to Christ. Janet enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, reading, watching sports, playing the organ and piano, and playing with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Tom of Pocahontas, formerly of Pomeroy; son, Brent (Shana) Weidauer of Humboldt; daughter, Pam (Chad) Greene of Bondurant; daughter-in-law, Julie Weidauer of Pomeroy; grandchildren, Devon (Molly) Weidauer, Ashlyn Weidauer, Brooklyn (Carter) Steck, Hannah Greene, Brendan Greene, and David Weidauer; great-grandchildren, James Weidauer, Charlotte Steck, Wesley Weidauer, and Beckham Steck. She is also survived by her siblings, Ron (Corinne) Peterson of Pocahontas, Gary Peterson of Des Moines, and Kurt Peterson of Las Cruces, New Mexico; brother-in-law, Raymond (Judy) Haffner of Fort Dodge; sister-in-law, Karen (Dennis) Bruns of Fonda, and sister-in-law, Patty Hagberg of Fargo, North Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maynard and Izetta Peterson; son, Greg Weidauer; sister-in-law, Betty Peterson; brother-in-law, Daryl Hagberg, and parents-in-law, Merle and Mildred Weidauer.
