Janet L. Withers of Blandon, PA, passed away on December 13, 2025. Born in Reading, PA, Janet was the daughter of the late Mabel (James) and Russell Beard. Janet married Kenneth Withers in 1971 and raised two daughters in her childhood home. They shared over 54 years of marriage and enjoyed many travels both throughout the United States and abroad during their years together.

Janet graduated from Fleetwood Area High School in 1964. She was a proud alumna, who continued to remain involved with her former classmates, helping to organize multiple reunions for the Class of '64 and regularly getting together with her fellow 'Tiger Lilies.'

After attending Kutztown University, Janet taught in the Reading School District for 38 years, spending the latter half of her career as a librarian at Riverside Elementary. She served many years as Superintendent of Sunday School as well as teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at St. Paul's U.C.C. in Fleetwood, PA. After her retirement, Janet continued her avid love of reading and educating and participated in a book club at the Muhlenberg Community Library and enjoyed storytelling to young readers.

Janet is survived by her her husband, Kenneth E. Withers and children, Karyn E., wife of Shawn Morrison, and Mariellen L. Withers. In addition, she leaves behind her beloved tuxedo cat, Skittles, and grandcats and dog, Mace, Chloe, and Penny, as well as several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Janet's infectious laughter, warm hugs, and unconditional love will always be in their hearts.

Janet was predeceased by her sisters, Katherine Kershaw and Patricia Loose.

In lieu of flowers, please direct contributions in Janet's memory to the public library system or an animal shelter of your choice.

A Celebration of Janet's Life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's UCC, 5 W Arch St, Fleetwood, PA
