Janette Davis Obituary

Janette Kathleen Davis

October 18, 1964 - January 3, 2025

Galveston, Texas - Janette Kathleen Davis passed away on January 3, 2025, at the age of 60, surrounded by her loving family. She was a dedicated and selfless mother, a passionate advocate for the environment, and a lifelong learner who lived her life with great purpose and love.

Jan was born on October 18, 1964, in Fort Worth, TX, and graduated from Southwest High School. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1986, from Stephen F. Austin State University where she was the top graduate in the Forestry Department. Jan was employed by the Texas Forestry Service for 17 years, originally in the Oak Wilt Program in Granbury, and then working her way up to the agency headquarters in College Station to lead rural assistance programs and working on forest policy issues. During her membership in the Society of American Foresters, Jan was instrumental in having its annual convention held in Fort Worth.

Jan then joined the US Forestry Service, having the positions of Assistant Director of Urban and Community Forestry and Assistant Director of Cooperative Forestry for the entire United States. She was then promoted to Southern Region Deputy Regional Forester for the State and Private Forestry. Jan was currently serving on the Wildfire Risk Reduction Infrastructure Team as a Program Manager; this committee was created for the purpose of preventing and managing forest fires in the Western U.S. Her commitment to the preservation of woodlands earned her numerous accolades, but it was her compassion for others and her dedication to teaching the next generation that truly set her apart.

Outside of her professional achievements, Jan had a wide array of personal interests that enriched her life. She was an avid gardener, often tending to her flower beds and herb garden. She enjoyed hosting friends and family at her home, and loved attending live events. Jan also cherished walking her devoted Doberman, Abba, on the beach in Galveston that was her residence at the time of her death. Abba never left her side.

Jan is survived by her parents, Cheryl Young Brien and William Miles Warren (and his spouse, Sharon Giraud Warren); her son, William Warren Davis; and her brother, William Jeffrey Warren.

Funeral Service: 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2024, in Greenwood's Live Oak Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107; followed by entombment at Greenwood Mausoleum. Should you like to make a memorial donation, we suggest the Galveston County Tree conservancy at https://www.galvestonislandtreeconservancy.org/donate

Jan's unwavering love for her family, her work in forestry, and her deep passion for conservation has left a lasting impact. She will be greatly missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the forests she so loved and the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

To see this news is heartbreaking. Jan is the love of my life and I would have traded places with her. I gave everything I had to her. My thoughts and prayers to Warren, Bill, Cheryl and Jeff. This is crushing.
