Janette Hartman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rosman-Uehling-Kinzer Funeral Home & Crematory Services on Jan. 7, 2026.
Janette Marie Hartman, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, in Lancaster, Wisconsin. She was born on June 27, 1951, in Anchorage, Alaska - "in the Territory, it wasn't a state yet!", a fun fact she loved to share.

Janette was the cherished daughter of the late Paul T. Hartman and is survived by her mother Shirley J. Hartman (Herreid). Her legacy continues through her three loving children, Briana Barnes (Shorty Stampfli) and Seth Barnes (Elena Ulev) from her marriage to David Barnes, and Vesna Dzamonja with the late Dario Dzamonja. She grew up alongside her siblings, the late Paul L. Hartman and Barbara Shoemaker (William Shoemaker). Janette adored her four grandchildren, Jessica Perrin (Keene), Justin Keene, Ella and Lucy Barnes and will be missed deeply by her four nieces and nephews.

Janette's professional career began as a teaching assistant for 14 years at Dodgeville Elementary School, where she discovered her lifelong passion for education and learning. The joy she found in shaping young minds inspired her to obtain her teaching degree. Janette went on to complete her Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education at UW-Madison, Wisconsin. Janette's dedication to helping others led her to Advanced Employment, where she supported special needs adults in finding meaningful work and independence. Her love for local history shone brightly as she gave tours at Pendarvis, sharing the stories of Cornish immigrants in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. Janette also contributed her talents to the Dodgeville Historical Society, preserving the past for future generations. In her later years, she greeted customers with a warm smile as a cashier at Wal-Mart.

Janette's Lutheran faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and nurturing her spirit. Her hands were rarely still, as she loved to sew, creating wedding dresses and clothes for her children. Janette worked as a seamstress in Madison, WI, and Sausalito, California, for a boutique that served Hollywood actresses. She was a self-taught lacemaker, creating intricate tatting and delicate bobbin lace, which were exquisite expressions of her artistry and true works of art.

Gardening was another of Janette's joys, a place of joy and tranquility. Each year, her garden expanded, a reflection of her love for growth and nurturing. She preserved her harvest through canning, drying, or freezing, ensuring her family enjoyed the fruits of her labor year-round. An amazing cook, Janette's love of spices and fresh ingredients from her garden resulted in meals that delighted all who had the pleasure of tasting them.

Janette's intelligence was evident in all she pursued, but it was her loving and generous nature that truly defined her. She was the kind of person who would go out of her way to help anyone in need, often putting others before herself. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her legacy of kindness, education and community service will continue to inspire and guide us.

Janette Marie Hartman lived a life of purpose and grace, and while she may have left this world, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. We bid farewell to a woman whose journey through life was a voyage of love, learning, and selfless giving, a journey that will continue to light the way for generations to come.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lancaster Health Services and Agrace Hospice for the kindness and compassion they provided.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
