Janey Alice Mitchell

Janey Mitchell, age 79, passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 2nd, 2025, at Barnes Care in Esko, MN. Janey was born on March 30th, 1946, to Eva Johnston in Cloquet, MN.

Janey graduated from Cloquet High School in 1964. In August of 1968 she was united in marriage to Ronald (Ron) Mitchell. Janey and Ron resided in rural Cloquet raising their family. Janey was a Branch Office Administrator for Edward Jones, receiving many awards. She retired from Edward Jones in 2005. After retiring, she spent a number of years working part time with County Seat Theater as a Box Office Administrator and Volunteer Coordinator.

Janey enjoyed her many trips to Canada with family and friends, collecting lighthouse memorabilia, and her favorite pastime, reading. She also loved to travel and after retiring she traveled the world including Australia, Ireland, United Kingdom, and Russia. Janey spent several years volunteering as a senior companion with Volunteer Services of Carlton County.

Janey was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; mother, Eva Freeman; brothers, Roger and Bobby Lawrence; and sister, Marilyn Lawrence.

She is survived by sons, Kelly (Kim) Mitchell of Cloquet, MN, Ryan (Lanae) Mitchell of Mulvane, KS; daughter, Brea Mitchell of LaCrosse, WI; 9 grandchildren, Brooke, Emily, Allyson, MaKayla, Dylan, Breanna, Trey, Jager, and Olivia; 5 great-grandchildren; and her very special goddaughter, Azur Coleman.

The family would also like to thank Barnes Care for the extraordinary care they provided Janey during her final journey.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 15th, 2025, at 10 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (1705 Wilson Ave, Cloquet, MN), followed by funeral service at 11 am. Luncheon to follow.
