Janice Bacon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Montano-Shea Funeral Home - Winsted on Jan. 5, 2026.
COLEBROOK -
Janice Lossin Bacon, beloved mother of two children, Robin Kimberly Bacon of Jackson, Alabama, and Lorri Bacon Smith of Essex, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at the age of 82, leaving a void her family cannot fill.
She was born at Winsted Memorial Hospital on January 26, 1943 to Marjorie (Lyons) Lossin and John James Lossin of Colebrook, Connecticut. Nicknamed "Buttercup," she attended The Gilbert School, focusing on Music and showing horses, graduating in 1961. She continued at The University of Hartford, Hartt College of Music, studying piano and music theory.
Beginning her career in real estate, she went on to build a successful Tupperware franchise, growing it into a household brand throughout Northwestern Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.
Janice was a devoted mother to her daughters, who were her pride and joy. She was an integral part of their lives and cared deeply for them and their families. From chaperoning trips and attending cheerleading and sports events with Lorri, she never missed a swim meet or a band recital for Robin. Janice was always up for supporting her girls, whether at fundraisers or by pitching in for the Annual Winsted Pet Parade.
As her children grew and moved away from Colebrook, she traveled extensively to be with her family. She loved to visit the Connecticut shoreline and the Redwoods in Northern California. In addition, she enjoyed spending time at their family home in Sandwich, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod. Janice had a large social circle and was a member of the Winsted Junior Women's Club and the Mountain Laurel Ski Club of West Hartford, Connecticut.
Janice's extended family was important to her; she was one of 8 first cousins and cherished the opportunity to participate in family reunions and events. They spent summers at The Lossin Farm on Shantry Road together. Building relationships that carried forward to the next generation. The cousins consider themselves siblings and best friends.
Janice is survived by her daughter Robin Kimberly Bacon, wife Karen Sue Harrell, and grandson Isaac Aharon Bacon of Jackson, Alabama; her daughter, Lorri Bacon Smith, husband David Scott Smith, and granddaughters Hannah Olivia Smith and Ella Reese Smith of Essex, Connecticut.
She is also survived by her sister, Mary Lossin Baker, New Hartford, formerly of Colebrook, Connecticut; nephew, Michael Dennis Baker, wife Stacy L. Baker, step nephew Colby Andryzeck, and nephew Dennis Michael Baker, from Hartland, Connecticut. She is also survived by her former husband and father of her children, Barry S. Bacon of Enfield, Connecticut.
Janice is predeceased by her mother, Marjorie Lyons Lossin; her father, John James Lossin; her nephew, Nicholas Shantry Baker; and her brother-in-law, Dennis Edward Baker, of Colebrook, Connecticut.
Funeral services will be held at a time to be announced in the spring. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted has care of the arrangements.

I am very sorry for your loss. Janice was a fun loving, happy woman. I remember her well from high-school. She also shared an apartment many years ago with my older sister.
