Judith Schaller Obituary

Judith Schaller
February 14, 2026
Judith Ann Schaller, 86, passed away peacefully at Havencare at Valerie Manor on February 14, 2026. Born on December 2, 1939, in Torrington, CT, she was the daughter of the late John and Josephine Rakyta (Cartelli), and a lifetime resident of both Winsted and Torrington. She is survived by her son, Kurt Schaller and wife Kelli of Canton; grandchildren, Ethan, Michael and Samantha; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by the love of her life, husband Raymond Schaller, Sr., and her son, Raymond Schaller, Jr.
Know by all as "Judy," she graduated from Gilbert High School in 1958 and worked at Torin Corp. in Torrington for many years. She was very proud of her office skills and in later years worked as a receptionist for New Image hair salon in Winsted. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling. She was always content to enjoy quiet time in her recliner, reading, watching historical programs or using her computer. She had a quick wit and shared many laughs at family functions, and she loved her Dunkin Donuts coffee.
Judy was exceptionally skilled at knitting. She was an avid reader, enjoying mystery novels. She attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Torrington for several years, with Slovak family ties to its founders.
An animal lover, her passion in life, besides being Mrs. Raymond Schaller, was caring for and adoring her pets. She had a deep affection for dogs, especially Schnauzers. She expected to be greeted at the Rainbow Bridge by all of them. She had cats as well, including her most recent Casper. As a child, she had a beloved pet horse and spoke often of her fond memories horse-back riding. Her home was filled with teddy bears, pet toys, anything purple, and photos of family. She loved living at Highland Lake where she and Ray raised their family, and she cherished their happy memories there. The family would like to thank the medical staff of Valerie Manor for their unwavering compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 837 Charles St., Torrington, CT. Judy's life was well lived, and we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace, reunited at last with her beloved Ray, just in time for Valentine's Day.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 837 Charles St., Torrington, CT. Burial will be private. Condolences may be sent to Judy's family by visiting www.cookfuneralhomect.com
