Janice Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Knell Mortuary on Mar. 11, 2026.
Janice May Brown of Joplin, Missouri, formerly of Reeds, Missouri, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of 88. She was born on January 17, 1938, in South Shore, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Omar Clyde and Ruth Lorina (Stevens) Nickel. Janice was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew her.

Janice's life was marked by her unwavering kindness and friendly demeanor, she married Danny Brown on September, 3, 1975, in Denton Texas; he preceded her in death on August 11, 2007. She spent her working years as a dedicated waitress, serving customers at several different restaurants in the area with a smile that could brighten even the cloudiest days.

Beyond her professional life, Janice had a passion for crocheting, creating beautiful pieces that she lovingly shared with friends and family. Janice's musical talents were a source of joy for those around her, as she often played the guitar and sang with a voice that was both soothing and uplifting.

Janice's love for animals was profound, especially for her beloved dog, who was a constant companion and source of comfort. Her home was always filled with the sounds of life, from the strumming of her guitar to the contented barks of her furry friends.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her daughters, Rhonda Guthrie (Martin) and Jane Holden (Brent), and her son, David Hardin, all of Joplin, Missouri. Her brother, Dennis Nickel, and sister, Diana Paquin, along with her 18 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren, will hold dear the memory of her kind heart and nurturing presence. Janice was predeceased by her great-grandsons, Gavin Turner and Gage Foreman, and great-granddaughter, Adaline Crabb, as well as her sisters, Gertrude Sammons and Sybil Hall.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm, Friday, March 13, 2026 at Knell Mortuary. Burial will follow in Fidelity Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the Knell Mortuary.
