Today, we celebrate the vibrant life of Janice "Jan" Craighead, a woman whose warmth and kindness touched the hearts of all who knew her. Born in 1940, Jan's life was filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
Jan was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who naturally nurtured everyone around her. Her devoted husband of 54 years, Wayne Craighead, was her anchor and the love of her life. She cherished her two grandsons who brought her endless joy and love. Her kindness, hardworking spirit, empathy, humility, and resilience were evident in everything she did.
Known for her delicious home-cooked meals, Jan loved nothing more than gathering family and friends around the table to share her country-style comfort food. Her home was always filled with the aroma of hearty meals and the sound of laughter. She enjoyed growing tomatoes, nurturing her plants just as she nurtured those around her. She had a gift for bringing people together, whether at family celebrations or casual visits from friends eager to enjoy her comforting dishes. She loved spending time outdoors, sitting with loved ones over a meal, and sharing stories under the open sky.
Family trips to Panama City Beach were among her most cherished memories, where she delighted in collecting seashells and basking in the sun. Hawaii also held a special place in her and Wayne's hearts as their favorite destination.
At Maplewood High School, where she served as a secretary, Jan became a second mother to many students, offering care and support beyond her official role. Her loving spirit was felt by all as she embraced her caregivers at Trevecca as family, and they, in return, called her "Mama."
We hold Jan's memory close, remembering her radiant smile, and the unconditional love she so generously shared.
Jan passed away peacefully on June 28th, 2025, in Nashville, TN, leaving behind a legacy of love and joy. Her spirit will continue to shine in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a treasure trove of happy memories that will be cherished forever.
Those who have passed on before her are husband, Wayne Craighead, parents, Theron Douglas and Muriel Douglas Herron, stepfather, William Herron, and many beloved pets.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are daughter, Donna (Steve) Ingram, grandchildren, Steven Ingram, Peyton Ingram, daughter in love Debbie (Tim) Emory-Utzig, sister, Vickie (Steve) Proctor, and nephew, Chris (Melissa) Jones.
Special Thank you to the amazing caregivers and nurses of Trevecca Center for Rehabilitation and Healing, and Adoration Hospice for their heartfelt dedication and continual devotion.
