Janice Mary Dobson Barrington, New Hampshire: Janice Mary Dobson, 87, of Barrington died on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at her home with her family by her side.

She was born on May 29, 1938 in Luton, Bedfordshire, England; the daughter of John Patrick Shane and Margaret Jackson Shane.

Jan grew up during World War II in England with her four older brothers. She learned how to knit, crochet, and sew in school which became lifelong hobbies. At the age of 17 she met her future husband, Bruce Dobson, in front of Buckingham Palace in London. They married in Luton, England when she was 20 and travelled together during his service in the US Air Force. In 1976 they moved to Barrington, New Hampshire, where she lived for 47 years. While raising her four children, she worked at Barrington Elementary School. She loved her church family and was a long-time member of First Congregational Church of Barrington. Jan enjoyed sending cards to friends and family for special occasions and just because. Her unique sense of humor was a delight to all around her. After retiring from Chadbourn's Restaurant in Northwood, New Hampshire, she enjoyed visiting her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the Southeast.

Janice is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen M. Etchison and Dexter Etchison of Opelika, Alabama, son Mark Dobson of Bunker Hill, West Virginia, daughters Teresa and Debra Dobson of Barrington, New Hampshire; brother John Shane of Blackpool, England; nine grandchildren: Shane, James, Hannah, Joseph, Laura, Timothy, Bryan, Emily, and Amy; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by parents John P. and Margaret Jackson Shane, brothers David, Bernard and Harry Shane, husband Roger Bruce Dobson and beloved daughter-in-law, Cheryl Mielke Dobson.
