Resident of Redlands, California for 23 years. Died in Redlands on March 27, 2025 after several years fighting several illnesses.

Born in Osceola, Iowa September 28, 1933 to Maurice Standish Hodges and Pauline Crew Eddy.

Grew up in Lamoni, Iowa, attended local schools there, graduating from Graceland College in 1957. She continued her education at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1961.

She married her high school sweetheart, Donald White in 1952, and they had 3 children, Mark, Laura and Dana. Janice and Donald divorced in 1962 and Janice moved to Whittier, California where she taught elementary school for 4 years while pursuing her graduate studies at (then) Los Angeles State College where she earned a master’s degree. She moved to Riverside, California where, as a single mom, she began a teaching career in the Alvord School District until 1996 when she retired.

She met her husband Gilbert (Paul) in 1968, and they married in 1970. In 2002, both being retired, they moved to Redlands. She spent the next 23 years traveling, reading, and supporting various humanitarian and progressive causes.

There will be a family memorial.

We are very grateful and we extend heartfelt thanks for the kind words and actions of relatives and friends. We are especially grateful for the loving care of caregivers, Maria Urcadiz and Ana Guerra, who were with her for a number of years.
