Janice Hamerski, 81, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:57 am April 13, 2024 at her home. She was born January 2, 1943 in Duluth, Minnesota to the late Gordan and Margaret (Dreimaker) Switzer. Janice married Steve Hamerski on October 13, 1963 in Winona, Minnesota. They were blessed with forty years of marriage before he preceded her in death on January 10, 2004.
Janice is survived by her sons, Bob Hamerski and special friend, Susan Beard and Gary Hamerski and special friend, Stephanie Rains, all of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Phillip Hamerski and wife, Veronica of Chicago, Illinois, Hannah Hamerski of Mount Vernon, and Seth Hamerski of Mount Vernon; great-grandchild, Paxton Hamerski of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Janice was preceded in death by two brothers.
Janice was director for both, Kenneth Martin Preschool and Child Development for SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital for eighteen years. Jan retired in 2005. She was a selected Senior Saint and was active in many civic organizations. She and her husband were members of Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Elks, Moose, American Legion, AmVets, and Mount Vernon Sportsman Club.
Art and culture were more than hobbies and making people laugh fortified her. Jan was very proud of her husband and children for all of their accomplishments.
A Visitation will be held May 8, 2024 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm. Intombment will follow. A Celebration of Life will be held May 8, 2024 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Mount Vernon Sportsman's Club. Memorials may be made in Janice's honor to Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Janice also asked that people do a kind deed for their fellow man in her memory.
