Janice Marie Hettinger

Janice Marie Hettinger, age 85, of Ovid, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at The Meadows in Corunna, Michigan.

She was born on September 14, 1939, in Lansing, Michigan, to Verlin H. and Alice L. (Remus) Love. Janice graduated from Ovid High School with the Class of 1957 and went on to earn her nursing degree from the Edward W. Sparrow School of Nursing in 1960.

On June 20, 1959, she married the love of her life, Donald Hettinger. Together, they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2016.

A dedicated nurse, Janice was also known for her compassionate heart and unwavering care for others. She loved playing cards, visiting the casino, and-most of all-cherished time spent with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and deep devotion to those she loved.

Janice is survived by her children: Brian (Theresa) Hettinger of Fremont, Jeff (Brenda) Hettinger of Owosso, and Connie (Mike) Walter of Ovid; her beloved grandchildren: Leah, Liza, Rachel, Danny, Katlyn, Brandon, Lexa, Dylan, Megan, and Logan; 11 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; and her brothers: Paul Love and Jack (Karen) Love. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; and sisters-in-law Lois Love, Donna Hettinger, and Doris Pollard.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McGeehan Funeral Homes – Keck-Coleman Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Maple Grove cemetery in Ovid.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Outreach Food Bank.
