Janice Elaine (McMillen) Hench, age 89, of Mechanicsburg, died on Sunday, November 17, 2024. Janice was born on Thursday, July 11, 1935, in Kistler to the late Dwight McMillen and Ruth (McConnell) McMillen. In addition to her parents, Janice is preceded in death by her four siblings: Ray McMillen, Bernice Dovey, Lucille Snyder, and Wanda Harris.
Janice’s survivors include her husband of 66 years, Lloyd Darwin Hench; her daughter: Sharon Potteiger of Shiremanstown; her grandson: Brandon Potteiger of Pooler, GA; her brother: Carl McMillen of Kistler; and several nieces and nephews.
Janice graduated from Blain Union High School as valedictorian of the class of 1953 and from Central Penn Business School’s Allied Health Medical Secretary program in 1954. She retired from Camp Hill School District Business Office in 1998, after many years of service working as the Secretary to the Business Manager. Janice was an accomplished pianist, avid reader and meticulous record-keeper. Her interpersonal skills were exemplary, characterized by warmth, respect, and gracious communication. Janice had a passion for travel, exploring destinations including Hawaii, Alaska, and Europe, which she visited twice with her daughter and grandson. She equally enjoyed visits to the Blain farm, shared by Lloyd, and winter months in Florida. Janice will be dearly missed by all those fortunate enough to have been in her life.
All are welcome to join Janice’s family at her gathering of family and friends on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Buhrig Funeral & Cremation, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Celebrant George Spangler officiating. Burial will be in Blain Cemetery at the family’s convenience.
