Janice Motes Obituary

Janice Baswell Motes, 86, of Ragland, Alabama passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025. The true matriarch of our family, who held us all together with her wisdom, warmth, unconditional love and her unwavering presence who was also smart, witty, strong, and fiercely independent. She loved life, enjoyed fishing, bowling and traveling but most of all she loved God and her family. Janice graduated from Pell City High School in 1956 where she was a cheerleader and 1955 homecoming queen. She retired from the Alabama Department of Transportation where she served as an Engineer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Maggie Baswell, sisters, Florence Landerfelt and Charlotte Nix; granddaughter, Paige Gann and great-great grandson, Cayden Yates. She is survived by her children, Tim Gann, Tina Gargus (Bruce) and Jeff Gann; five grandchildren, Crystal Carr, Misty Goodwin, Cody Gann, Kara Kennedy and Maleigha Gann, 10 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren. The funeral service was on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 6 p.m., following visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Usrey Funeral Home – Pell City, with Bro. Vint Arnold officiating. A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Baswell Cemetery. Condolences may be offered online at www.usreyfuneralhome.com. Usrey Funeral Home – Pell City was in charge of arrangements.
