Janice O'Brien Obituary
Jan grew up in a bustling household with her loving parents, Bernerd and Beatrice (Bailey) Balon, and her siblings. Jan found her soulmate in Gerald "Jerry" O'Brien, and together they built a life filled with joy, and the laughter of children. Though she was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Gerald, and her sisters Annie Stelwagon and Rose Shields, and granddaughter Grace Collins, Jan's spirit continued to shine through her family.
A devoted mother, Jan's pride and joy were her children: Jane (Sean) Collins, Dan (Judy) O'Brien, Nick (Margaret) O'Brien, and Jody (Steve) Elms. Her heart swelled with each addition to her family, and she cherished every moment with her grandchildren: Jeff O'Brien, Jessica (Kevin Rodewald) O'Brien, Katie Elms, Joe Elms, Rosie Elms, Audra Collins, Kevin Collins, Samantha (Kyle) Veldt and Tyjon (Anna) O'Brien. She is also survived by her siblings, Katie (Kim Gillow) Balon, Benny Balon, Bill (Marsha) Balon, and Carey (Gary) Harris.
Jan enjoyed quilting, sewing, and painting. Her gifts were not only a personal solace but also a source of joy for those who were lucky enough to receive one of her creations. Her quilts were not just blankets but stories woven from the heart. She also enjoyed these hobbies with her friends that held the same interests as her.
As we bid farewell to Jan O'Brien, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that enriched the lives of so many. Her memory will be held in the hearts of those who loved her. The family would like to thank the staff at Eaton Community Palliative Care for the care and support they have shown to the O'Brien family.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026 – 12:00 p.m. at Christ the King PCA, 328 S. Jefferson St., Hastings MI 49058, with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the service time. A luncheon will follow directly after the service.
Janice will be laid to rest in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in loving memory of Jan to the Eaton Community Palliative Care Facility, 2675 S. Cochran Rd., Charlotte, MI 48813. For online condolences please visit www.millsfuneral.com
