Janice Oster Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home, Inc. on Aug. 17, 2024.
Janice Elaine (Boslov) Oster, aged 90, passed away on Friday, August 16th in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on April 23rd, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio to Helen and Morris Boslov, and resided in Ottawa Hills (Toledo) for many years.
Janice lived her life to her standards, and was unapologetically herself throughout it all! She lived in Cleveland for most of her childhood, and moved to Toledo as an adult after her marriage to Sol Oster - they were married for 33 years and had two children, Linda (Rosenbloom) and Karen (Lycan).
Janice is survived by both daughters and their spouses (Jeff and Jeff) as well as 5 grandchildren; Carly, Arika, Zach, Jesse, and Justin; and her great grandchildren; Caylah, Kadence, Bennett, Carter, Malcolm, Paige, Olivia, and a little one on the way.
Janice enjoyed playing mahjong with a group of dynamic ladies for many years, at various dining spots throughout Toledo! She taught several family members how to play, to their joy (and frustration). She played the piano and would often regale her children and grandkids with various tunes. She really enjoyed musicals/showtunes and music in general, Tom Jones being one of her very favorite artists.
Her grandkids and great grandkids have many fond memories of Janice. She was a night owl, and so you could always call her at 10pm, 1am and she'd be ready to talk. The family often gathered to play games, eat Chinese food, and enjoy each others company. Janice was the designated soda/pop bringer to family events, as she was not known for her cooking.
Though she dealt with many hardships in her life, including the early death of her husband, 2 bouts of breast cancer, knee replacements, and more, she had a determined positive outlook when challenges came her way, something we can all take to heart.
Donations in Janice's honor can be made either to Congregation B'Nai Israel, or to the BeInstrumental Foundation, which connects school kids in Toledo with instruments, and helps to make music accessible to everyone!
