PIQUA - Janice E. Petty, 87, of Piqua, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Koester Pavilion. She was born March 9, 1934 in Greenville to the late Earl I. and Lillia A. (Coppess) Long. She married Howard M. "Mitch" Petty April 3, 1959 in Gettysburg; and he preceded her in death October 18, 2015.
Survivors include three sons, Randy (Amie) Petty, Timothy Petty, Darin "Scott" Petty all of Piqua; three daughters, Deborah Petty, Valerie (Scott) Frazier all of Piqua, Catherine (Phil) Baker of Rushville; a son-in-law, Rick Jones, of Piqua; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild;. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Wilbert, Arthur, William, Robert; two sisters, Opal Long, Lorena Arnett; a daughter-in-law, Darlene Petty; and her daughter, Sandra Jones.
Mrs. Petty was a graduate of Gettysburg High School. She worked as the cook for Favorite Hill School and South Street School. She was very active with Piqua High School where she worked as "the ticket lady" for Piqua Athletics. She was active for many years with the Korean War Veterans Association and was a charter member of the Piqua High School Music Boosters. She loved her time as a Band Mom and worked with the PTA in the past. She also enjoyed the fellowship she shared with her lunch buddies group. She worked countless jigsaw puzzles and word searches. She was a gifted cook and baker; and enjoyed cooking for her family.
A service to honor her life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 22, 2021 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Larry Butt officiating. Burial will follow at Stelvideo Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sandra Jones Scholarship, c/o Piqua Education Foundation, P.O. Box 201, Piqua, OH 45356. Guestbook condolences and expressions of sympathy, to be provided to the family, may be expressed through jamiesonandyannucci.com.
