Janice Prior Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by St. John's Family Funeral Home & Crematory on Mar. 3, 2026.
Jan Prior, 77, of Ponte Vedra, beloved wife of the late Peter Prior, passed away on January 31, 2026.

She is survived by her daughter, Angela Laramie of Boston, her step-son Tom Prior and his wife Vivian, her grandchildren Sarah (David) Beach, Danny (Felicia) Prior, and Jon (Arionna) Prior, and nine great-grandchildren, all of Orlando and Tampa.

She is also survived by her siblings James Kueneke, Christine (the late Ronald Spruell) Burkart, Jacqueline (Daniel) Kettelkamp, Donald Kueneke, and Patricia (Ronald) Miller, and her sister-in-law Rose Ann Cole, all of St. Louis. She also had many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Lois Kueneke, and her brother William Kueneke.

Jan spent her career as a legal assistant working primarily on personal injury and workers' compensation cases. She took great care to ensure that clients were well cared for, visiting clients in the hospital and continued to stay in touch with some well after their cases resolved. Jan was a proud graduate of Trinity College.

Jan enjoyed gardening and was known to plant hundreds of daffodils each fall at the home she shared with Peter for 25 years in Connecticut. When Angela was young, she sewed clothes for them both, once making matching plaid skirts. She enjoyed needlepoint, and in more recent years, spent hours knitting, donating blankets for children to hospitals and shelters. She and Peter were enthusiastic UConn women's basketball fans, traveling to tournaments, including watching them in the Final Four in St. Louis where she grew up.

Jan derived great joy from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved Christmas, enjoyed the beach and trips to the shore with Peter. She had a quick wit and a generous heart, and was fiercely independent.

Memorial Services were held in St. Augustine, FL.
