Janice Smidt, the daughter of Arthur and Mildred (Grummert) Andersen, was born on December 11, 1952 at Superior, Nebraska. She passed away on August 19, 2025 as a result of an auto accident south of Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 72 years, 8 months, 8 days.

Janice was baptized January 13, 1953, and later confirmed May 21, 1967, at Salem Lutheran Church north of Superior. She attended public schools in Hardy, Edgar, and Superior, graduating with the class of 1971. Janice's next adventure was to enter into and complete Cosmetology College in Hastings as a licensed Cosmetologist for 50 plus years, later earning her Associate Arts Degree in Accounting from Central Community College in Hastings.

As those of you close to Janice know, the highlight of her employment career was the nearly twenty years spent with Commonwealth Theatres in Superior and in Goodland, Kansas. Nearly half of that time being in management.

February 15, 1992, Janice and Melvin Smidt were married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Superior. This was not only a union of two but a family of six.

Janice was employed by many businesses in town including Boettcher Enterprise, Petro Plus, Hob-Nob changing to Superior Spirits, the City of Superior as the billing clerk retiring in 2016; and was currently employed with Megrue-Price Funeral Home as a chapel sitter since 2004, and many people remember Janice as their babysitter, (which I think included the whole town.)

Janice enjoyed sewing, crocheting, needle work, and working in her yard and taking care of her flowers. That is until the grandchildren needed to learn how to sew and then there were craft projects, picnics, cookies to bake and butterflies to catch. In her spare time she transplanted irises, which were her favorite - 3 rows surround her back yard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Mildred and her husband, Melvin.

She is survived by her children, Gregg of Sutton; Kevin (Cassie) of Lincoln; Marcie (Pat) Reed of Pleasant Dale and Blake (Jessica) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; 8 grandchildren Isabella, Lily-Ann, Dannyka, Jaxon, Greyden, Erin, Sam and Hadley; 3 step-grandchildren Madison, Jack and Claire; brother and sisters-in-law Marvin (Marietta) Smidt, and DeEtte Smidt; and her beloved dog, Marnie; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
