Janice Marie Davis Smith, a loving and gentle soul, passed away peacefully at her home in De Tour Village, Michigan, on September 19, 2023. Born on January 23, 1955, in Hayti, Missouri, Janice lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to her family.
Janice was the cherished daughter of the late Ernest JD Davis and Bonnie Dodd Davis. She was a beloved sister to the late Faye Brasher, Carol Hunter, and Ronnie Wayne Davis. She also had a special bond with her late canine companion, Sophie, who brought her immense joy and companionship. Janice is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 21 years, Ed Smith, and her adoring children, Jennifer Anderson (Jeffrey) and Christopher Johnson. She is also survived by her loving sister Marilyn C. Heath (Andy), her stepchildren Cindy Stroffregen (Trey) and Justin Smith (Francine), and her cherished grandchildren Kaylyn Addison, Alex Johnson, Conner Johnson, Alyssa Smith, and Jacob Smith. Janice also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Janice graduated from Sneads High School in 1973 and later attended Chipola Junior College. She was a dedicated homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming environment for all who entered her home. Janice's love for her family was evident in everything she did, from the meals she lovingly prepared to the gatherings she hosted. Her home was a hub of activity, filled with the laughter and love of friends and family.
Janice's interests were as diverse as they were numerous. She had a passion for gardening and took great pride in her bountiful harvests. She loved to cook and was known for her delicious meals and her ability to can and freeze vegetables and other foods. Janice also enjoyed going to the casino and had a knack for bringing people together. She had a zest for life and lived every moment to the fullest.
Janice was a friendly and gentle woman who touched the lives of all who knew her. Her warmth and kindness were infectious, and she had a way of making everyone feel special. Janice was a beacon of light in her community and will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
In the words of Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." This quote perfectly encapsulates the life and legacy of Janice. She made everyone feel loved, valued, and important. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones and all who were touched by her kindness.
Janice Marie Davis Smith was a woman of strength, grace, and boundless love. Her life was a testament to the power of family, the joy of friendship, and the beauty of a life well-lived. She will be remembered for her loving heart, her gentle spirit, and her unwavering devotion to her family. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide those she leaves behind.
A Celebration of Janice's Life will be held in the chapel of McAlpin Funeral Home on Sunday, September 24, 2023, beginning at 3:00 PM CST with Dr. Juno Douglas officiating. Interment will follow at Pope Cemetery in Sneads, Florida. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service starting at 2:00 PM CST
