Janice Irene Smith, age 83, of Clarence, MO, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at the Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO.

Janice was born on April 13, 1942 in Baring, MO, the daughter of Harold and Blanche (Kigar) Marsh. She was united in marriage to Thornton Barton Jr. and traveled frequently, until her husband Thornton passed away. She then moved back to Clarence where she worked at Southwestern Bell and later met and married J.D. Smith. After marrying J.D. Smith, they moved to Canton Mo, where they lived for several years. She then retuned back home to Clarence where she and her husband owned and operated the Strip Joint Furniture refinishing business until his passing and then later worked at Hardys Oil Company till retirement. She enjoyed Bird watching, flower gardening, puzzles, and was an avid genealogist.

She is survived by her children, Thornton "Skip" Barton III (Rahna) of Canton Mo, Lisa Bash (Duane) of Moberly Mo, and Pam Hillard (Randy) of Shelbina Mo. Surviving grandchildren, Danielle Eisenbeiss (Sean); Thornton "Luke" Barton IV (Audrey); Shawn Bash, Travis Bash (Kelsey) Tyler Mettes (Lacie) and Charla Osborne, one brother, Glennon Marsh of Clarence, MO; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Thornton Barton Jr. on January 12, 1970 and J.D. Smith on November 7, 1985; and one brother, DaVerne Marsh and special friend Lindell "Bitsy" Rufener

Funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Clarence, MO. A visitation will precede the service starting at 1 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery at later date. Memorials may be made to: Maplewood Cemetery
