Janice L. (Reid) Tipert died Thursday evening, August 21, 2025, at the age of 87. Jan was the devoted wife of the late Walter H. Tipert, Jr., with whom she shared 48 years of marriage.

Born in Salem, Jan was the daughter of the late George and Alice (Bowden) Reid. She was raised and educated in Danvers, where she graduated from Holten High School. A graduate of UMASS Amherst, she was a lifetime member and past president of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

Janice dedicated 36 years to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher in Danvers, spending many years at Thorpe School where she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues

Beyond her career, Janice gave generously of her time and spirit to her community. She was a life member of the Maple Street Congregational Church and served as Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mt. Burnett Chapter. Her civic engagement included an extraordinary 41 years as a Danvers Town Meeting Member-a testament to her unwavering devotion to public service. Janice was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, General Israel Putnam Chapter, and, the Polish Club, the Danvers Republican Town Committee. She also delighted in her longtime sponsorship of the Danvers Doll Carriage Parade, bringing joy and tradition to local families year after year.

For decades, Jan delighted in spending time at Kiwanis functions with her husband, before becoming a member herself. She was a former member of the Danvers Cable Advisory Committee and the Friends of the Danvers Council on Aging.

She is survived by her children: Walter Tipert III and his wife Christen of Danvers; Andrea Crawford of Newnan, Georgia; Monica Tipert and her partner Sheila Rizzotti of Danvers; and Lance Tipert and his partner Angie Adams of Stephenville, Texas. She was the cherished grandmother of Alan Tipert, Laurel Tipert, and Peyton Tipert, and the sister of George Reid. Janice is also lovingly remembered by her niece, Judy Lavoie.

Relatives and friends are invited to honor Janice's life at her funeral service on Saturday, August 30 at 10:00 AM at Maple Street Congregational Church, 90 Maple St., Danvers. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Visiting hours will be held Friday, August 29 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers.
