Janice Ruth Torres

Janice Ruth (Irving) Torres, a treasured mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, at her home in Huntington Beach, California, surrounded by the family who adored her. Born on August 10, 1935, Janice lived a beautiful life defined by profound kindness, selflessness, and grace.

She was the true matriarch of her family, and her home was much more than a house-there she held and nurtured the heart of her family through good times and bad. Janice was cherished for the wisdom of her experience, for the generosity of her spirit, for the lightness in her company, and for her resolute strength. Her family and loved ones will deeply miss the refuge that they sought and found in her.

For more than 35 years, Janice was a dedicated and gentle presence as the school librarian at Joseph R. Perry Elementary School in Huntington Beach, California. She guided generations of students through the shelves, instilling a love of learning and reading in the countless young lives she touched.

Janice is survived by her loving children: Debra Pierce, Michael Tyrone "Ty" Torres, and Denise Thornton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cleto "Junior" Torres, and her daughter, Carrie Barker. Her enduring legacy lives on through her 12 grandchildren and her 20 great-grandchildren.

Though her family grieves her loss, they celebrate the long, beautiful life she lived and the immense love she shared. Her memory will be treasured and will forever be a guiding light.

A private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.
