Janice Williams Obituary

Janice Williams passed peacefully away at her home with the TV on to watch her beloved horse racing.

Janice was born in Guildford, England on November 10th, 1939, to her parents Edward and Alice. In her young days they moved from the town of Guildford out to a country farm where she started her lifelong love of horses. She attended an English school for young ladies before moving to London where her first job was in a typing pool. That is where she met her best friend for the next fifty years, Jenny. She always loved to travel, and she was able to take trips with her father. On one trip to America with her father, she wanted to visit the rodeo, so she went to the Cheyenne Frontier Days, where she met her husband, Jerry Williams.

She married Jerry and started living in Cheyenne, WY, where Mark was born, then onto Grand Forks, North Dakota as Jerry was in the US Air Force. In 1973, they moved to England where Jerry retired from the Air Force. They moved to live on her parent’s farm in a small cottage. Over the next two decades, Janice was a part of many businesses and organizations. Janice and Jerry had a farm, a pet store, an equestrian supply store and a bakery. She was part of the Women’s Institute, Country Women of the World, and several social clubs. After Mark went back to the USA to attend college, Janice and Jerry divorced. Janice then lived in Alton where she worked for the local county social services taking care of people. She would visit the USA as often as she could before she finally decided to move here permanently. She loved her Sun Prairie home and her all friends. Once she arrived in Wisconsin, she made friends everywhere she went. She was passionately involved in her grand kids’ activities, traveling thousands of miles to see them play in orchestra, football, and track & field. No matter what the weather was, she wanted to be there.

Janice was an avid horse racing fan, so she bought shares in several horses, many of which won races. She even got to be in the winner’s circle at three of those wins. She loved tennis and went to Wimbledon with Jenny for four decades even making a TV appearance during a women’s final match! Janice loved the Packers and loved going to Lambeau or cheering from home. She was passionate about trying to help people. She made over six hundred blankets to share with various organizations. She did a water walk to raise money for an organization that helps developing countries build wells to provide clean water.

Janice loved her family, spending time with whenever she could. She loved finding unique gifts for everyone and sharing her family traditions.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Alice, her sister, Averil, and her aunt, Olive. She is survived by her loving son, Mark, his wife Christina, her grandchildren, Rachel (Paul), Luke and Hannah, Aiden (Paige), Alton, and her great-grandson Rhett.

A visitation to honor Janice’s life will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (550 Lincoln Dr., Sun Prairie) from 1-4pm with a funeral service to follow. We invite friends and family to an English tea after the service. A livestream of the service will be available.

Janice’s family would like to thank all her friends who made her feel so special and for taking such great care of her.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either organization:
