Janie Neal Abascal embraced life with unwavering enthusiasm. Whether it was journeying through new destinations, gathering pecans at her sister Omega's home in Alabama, or enjoying a peaceful fishing trip at Norris Lake in Tennessee, she found joy in the simplest of activities. Her passion for traveling was evident in the stories she shared, each one filled with excitement and wonder. Her adventurous spirit did not overshadow her love for home and family, where she created delightful memories with her loved ones. This ability to find happiness in diverse environments illustrated Janie's zest for life.
An active believer in the Baptist faith, Janie Neal Abascal always welcomed conversations about her spiritual beliefs. Janie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank, whose memory remained a source of comfort to her. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Marsha Barber, Omega Little, Annette Coulter, Faye Cook, and Kathleen Crichton, and her brother, Dewey. Janie's legacy extends beyond her immediate family, illustrated by the close relationships she nurtured with her niece, Nora Pace, and great-nephew, Robin Williams. Special friends and caregivers, Charles and Leesa Smith, also played an essential role in her life, reinforcing the idea that love transcends blood relations.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 26th, at 10 a.m. at the Cumberland Valley Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel, with Rev. Rod Raleigh officiating. The burial will take place in the Monte Vista Cemetery in
Cumberland, Kentucky, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband Frank.
