Janie Sue Kennedy, age 84 of Monroe and formerly of Fairplay, passed away peacefully on Sept. 26, 2025.

Ms. Kennedy was born in Mansfield, GA, on July 31, 1941. She attended Rutledge and Madison schools, and was a 1959 Honor Graduate of Reidsville High School. She returned to Morgan County as a single mother raising two young daughters, and she supported her family as a secretary and bookkeeper. She worked at Sowhatchet Plantation, Wellington Puritan Mills, Morgan County Commissioners Office, and for A.L. Williams at Little River Farms. Ms. Kennedy was employed for over a decade with the State of Georgia. In retirement, she worked part time as a tour guide at the Rogers House & Rose Cottage Museum and at the "In High Cotton" Boutique in Madison.

Janie enjoyed many passions and hobbies including painting, playing piano, singing, watching movies, sewing, and rescuing animals. She was passionate about history and accumulated books on a variety of topics. In her spare time, she was an avid collector of antiques and a frequent thrift shopper. She was fond of relaxing with friends and family at the beach, lake and swimming pool. Most of all she adored spending time with the Kennedy Family. She loved her siblings, daughters, nieces and nephews, and her grandchildren immensely. Her home was a favorite gathering place full of good times and family traditions.
