Janie Raines Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 18, 2025.
Janie B. Raines, born in Rebecca, Georgia, in 1927, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones. She grew up on a farm with her siblings Beatrice, Azilee, and T.A., and discovered her lifelong love of music early, trading eggs for piano lessons from a neighbor.

A 1945 graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University, she was the first in her family to earn a degree. After working at the Ashburn Peanut Company, she married Langdon Howard "Pat" Raines in 1949. Together they raised five children and shared nearly five decades of marriage filled with faith, music, and service.

Later, at 91, she married Ralph "Pete" Towell, Sr., with whom she shared loving, devoted years.

She is survived by children Phyllis Anne Baboyian, David Raines, Lee Raines, and Susan Ross; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. She was predeceased by husbands Pat Raines and Pete Towell, son Clark Raines, and granddaughter Katharine Anne Ross.

Her family finds comfort in the music and memories she leaves behind. Raines, Barker, Janie
