On April 9, 2025, at the age of 95, Janie Ruth Reddish, our family matriarch traded her earthly home for her heavenly one. She lived a beautiful life centered on three things she loved most—in this order: faith, family, and fishing.
As she stepped into heaven’s glory, she was joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, Luther, and her two sons, Buckshot and Derel.
A lifelong member of Pigott Branch Missionary Baptist Church, she was rooted in faith from the time she was a baby. Her belief in God shaped every part of her life and poured into the hearts of those around her.
A woman of unwavering faith, she filled every space she entered with warmth, old church hymns, and heavenly-smelling cooking. If you were lucky enough to sit at her table, you knew you were in for a treat—whether it was her famous chicken and corn, jelly cake, neck bone and rice, or everyone’s favorite homemade biscuits.
She had a special gift for loving people—especially her grandbabies, whom she spoiled with every ounce of her heart. Her home was their favorite place—where rules were few, love was abundant, and bellies were always full. Things were much different for her three boys when they were younger, though, who were as wild and rambunctious as they come. Their antics were kept in check by the “whipping tree” in the yard—a tree they knew all too well, where Mama would make them fetch their own switch when they pushed things too far. Even the dog wasn’t safe from the whipping tree when it got out of line.
She loved nothing more than gathering the family for a good old-fashioned fish fry—filled with laughter, stories, and plates piled high with food and love. Whether casting a line at her favorite fishing hole or humming “Old Rugged Cross” on the front porch, she lived a full life. Her memory lives on in the songs she sang, the meals she shared, and the stories we’ll tell for generations.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Dawn Reddish; daughters-in-law Janet Reddish and Ava Reddish; her beloved sister, Madeline Sikes; and her grandchildren Jennifer Barrow, Nicole Raiford, Jaime Savage, Lindsey Reddish, Luke Reddish, Jordyn Sapwell, and Haley Jennings. She also leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren and many others who never once doubted her deep and abiding love for them.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Pigott Branch Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am at Pigott Branch Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Luke Reddish, Ron Barrow, Matthew Savage, Kyle Sapwell, Will Jennings, Tim Hodges, CW Howard.
