Janis Jean Akers, 70, of Quinnesec passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Marshfield Medical Center - Dickinson in Iron Mountain.

Janis was born August 25, 1955, in Marquette, MI, daughter of Marvin and Barbara Jean Williamson. A 1973 Negaunee High School graduate, Janis completed her LPN program at Northern Michigan University in 1977, and on October 28, 1978, she married Jerry Akers at the United Methodist Church in Negaunee.

A sweet and friendly but shy woman, Janis was always positive. She was a kind and caring nurse at Bell Memorial Hospital, and in her later years enjoyed working at Walmart, particularly in the fabric department. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and taking care of children. A member of Maranatha Assembly of God, Janis was a leader for STARS and AWANA.

Janis is survived by her husband, Jerry; her 3 children, Sarah (Terry) Fox, Rebecca Akers, and Chris Akers; a brother, Tom Williamson; and her beloved dog, Chloe.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, at Maranatha Assembly of God. With Pastor Dave Wilton officiating the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. A small luncheon will be provided at the church following the service.

In lieu of Flowers donation can be made to Maranatha Messengers, Location: 917 Pyle Drive, Kingsford; Phone: (906)774-7877 - a Maranatha Church based outreach for the needy in Dickinson County
