Janis J. Evans-Soltesz, a cherished resident of Ostrander, Ohio, passed away on May 25, 2025, at Riverside Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love and family that will be forever remembered. Born on May 16, 1942, in Pomeroy, Ohio, she was a graduate of Middleport High School, class of 1961, and furthered her education at Columbus Business School.
Janis dedicated a significant part of her career to JC Penney, where she enjoyed the camaraderie of her colleagues. Her warm spirit and caring nature made her beloved by many friends and family, and she is remembered for her outgoing personality and the importance she placed on family ties.
Her greatest pride lay in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Janis created memorable moments with her family, particularly during birthdays and holidays, where her world-famous carrot cake was a highlight. She cherished her relationships and made time to travel, read, and enjoy life with her loved ones.
She is survived by her beloved spouse, William Soltesz; her children, Jeff Evans and Scott Evans; her daughter-in-law, Michelle; and her grandchildren, Lindsay Evans, Elaine Winkley, Drew Evans, and Jenna Evans. Janis also leaves behind her stepchildren, Darla Shevelow, Kyle Soltesz, Lisa Dennison, and Troy Soltesz, along with step grandchildren Aaron Soper, Mark Soper, Lauren Barlow, Samuel Shevelow, Sarah Shevelow, Katelynn Soltesz, Ryan Soltesz, Jeremy Todd, and Lela and Tori Soltesz, as well as twelve great-grandchildren. Her brother, Jan (Susan) Hauck, also survives her.
Janis was predeceased by her parents, Marie and Charles Hauck, and her former spouse, Ron Evans and stepfather, Richard Pickens.
Calling hours will be held Monday June 2nd from 12pm - 2pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest, located at 10051 Brewster Ln, Powell, Ohio with a service to celebrate her life at 2:00 PM.
Graveside service Tuesday June 3rd 1:00pm at Riverview Cemetery, Middleport, Ohio 45760
As we celebrate the life of Janis J. Evans-Soltesz, we remember her not only as a retiree of JC Penney but as an extraordinary individual whose love for her family and friends was boundless. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
