Janis was my closest friend when we were grad students at UMass. We were partners in crime. She was one of the funniest people I ever met, her wit making me literally buckle over. And her poetry was wonderful. Over the years my husband and I spent terrific times with Janis, her wonderful husband, Randall and delightful Stefana. We were blessed to have them travel to our wedding, and I still remember her beaming throughout. I could feel her warmth. Janis was smart, not just intellectually but smart about what made people tick. And quietly courageous as she faced cancer for so many years. Many might emotionally collapse, but Janis didn“t lose her bouyancy, humor, and compassion. She had a rare gift of letting others know they had worth. Janis was one of a kind. The world has shrunk a bit without her. My deepest condolences to Randall, Stefana, and their family. May you find solace in your memories of just how much love she radiated. Love, Nancy

Janice and I didn't interact that often because I teach in the grad program but the few times we did she was always extraordinary lovely and open and kind. She had a beautiful smile. I wish that I had known her better. All my all my condolences and affection go to Randall. Sending love and courage, Peter

Thinking of Janis-a beautiful person and a beautiful soul. And of Randall, her partner in everything. We send condolences, we send love from far away in South Africa. Stephen and Moira Clingman.
