Janis Evelyn "Bell" Marshall

Funeral services for Janis Marshall, 82, of Athens, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home, with Rev. Chris Harrison officiating. Interment will follow at Beck's Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Marshall passed away on February 17, 2026, in Athens.

Janis Evelyn (Bell) Marshall was born on October 26, 1943, in Athens, Texas, to Bervin Bell and Augustine (Anding) Bell. She dedicated more than 30 years of service to United Telephone Company, where she worked setting up new accounts. Janis found joy in cooking and traveling with friends, and she cherished every moment spent with her family-especially those who lovingly called her "Nonnie." She also adored her beloved dog, Darcy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marion Marshall; her sister, Jana (Bell) Smikle; and her brother, Ronnie Bell.

Survivors include her special friend, Eddie Laster; her son, Bervin Hatton; and her grandchildren, Nicala Hatton, Kennedy Hatton, Jaxx Hatton, and Vivi Hatton.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026, from 10:30-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
