Jared Buttars, 49, a man of unwavering strength, concluded a courageous and hard-fought battle on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at his home in Layton, after a relentless struggle, a testament to his incredible will and his deep devotion to his family.
Jared was born in
Bellevue, Washington on September 13, 1976 to Jon and Sigrid Buttars. He spent his early childhood in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before his family ultimately settled in Logan, Utah, where he grew up and graduated from Skyview high school. From a young age Jared pursued creative projects and developed a natural talent for storytelling, spending countless hours crafting movies and podcasts for the enjoyment of friends, family and listeners alike.
From 1995 to 1997, Jared faithfully served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Adelaide, Australia. While he had always hoped for an international adventure, he found that the English-speaking mission was the perfect fit, allowing him to focus entirely on the people he served. He left Australia with a profound love for the people he taught and the lifelong friends he made in the mission field.
Jared met the love of his life, Melanie, in the spring of 2000, and after an inseparable summer, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Mount Timpanogos temple on October 6, 2000. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter and endless adventure. Above all, Jared cherished his role as a father, creating lasting memories while traveling the world with his children. He loved his children fiercely and enjoyed watching them learn and grow into amazing individuals. He instilled in each of them a love of creativity and self expression.
Jared brought his trademark dedication to his career at Bonneville International, where he balanced the essential, everyday operations of the company with another personal passion: storytelling. He found immense joy in the creative process, and he took great pride in having a professional home that allowed him to express his unique voice and vision. His spirit truly soared when creating his podcast "Tourbillion Tales." He cherished the opportunity to blend his work ethic with his creativity, finding deep fulfillment in a career that allowed him to build something original.
Left to honor Jared and remember his love are his cherished wife and partner in all things, Melanie, who stood by him through every battle. His legacy of strength lives on through his children, Joule, Connor, and Kara. He also leaves behind his father, Jon Buttars; mother, Sigrid Buttars; his brothers, Rod (Kathi), Russ (Jeanette) and James, and sisters, Rindy and Susan (Mark). Jared was a beacon of light in their lives, and his spirit will be forever etched in their hearts.
We invite all who knew Jared to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page. Each story and picture shared will continue the celebration of Jared's life, keeping his memory alive for us all to revisit. Let us remember Jared not with sadness, but with the joy and warmth he brought into our lives.
