In loving memory of Hannah/Julian/Jules Stokes Shaw, age 20, of Farmington, Utah. Jules left us too soon on February 14, 2026. Jules was born in Layton, Utah on November 19, 2005 to her adoring parents, Garth and Leigh Shaw. They marveled at how their hearts expanded with Jules’ curiosity, laughter, and creativity. Jules’ creative energy was something to behold. She was an artist with paint, words, and music. Jules was always painting a picture, making crafts with friends, creating music in orchestra and our home, and writing in her journals. In recent years, she ceaselessly listened to the music of her favorite artists, went to concerts of her favorite bands, and explored a wide range of music styles and genres. Music brought her deep joy and peace.

Our family expanded to include her brother, Liam. Jules was initially uncertain about her new role as big sister, but that quickly changed. As they grew together and she shared her passions for music and swimming, Liam and Jules were the closest of friends. Jules was acutely sensitive to and compassionate toward others. She will always be remembered for the love and care she showed her brother, family and friends, teammates on the South Davis Tsunami and Davis High School swim teams, and all the kids she taught how to swim.

Her care and attention were also focused on the natural world. Jules was happiest with the sun and wind on her face. From her early science walks and geocaching adventures to years spent boating and skiing, Jules loved being outside. She saw beauty and value in all forms of life and was fascinated with all the small creatures so often overlooked. She was directing this passion toward her education in freshwater and marine ecology at Utah State University. Jules felt great love in her life from her new friends made at college and a special partner who treasured her.

Jules leaves behind her parents, brother, and dog in Farmington, Utah. In Wyoming, Jules is survived by her Nannie/Grandmother in Alcova, Grannie and Grampa in Lander, special aunts, uncles, and cousins in Lander, and her uncle and cousins in Cheyenne. Jules also had an uncle and cousins on the east coast and family in Colorado. She leaves behind friends who were loved like cousins on the east coast, in Texas, and in Utah.

We are so much more than the way we leave this world and a celebration of Jules’ life is being planned for early spring. We invite all who knew and loved Jules to join us in honoring her beautiful spirit. In addition, the family is establishing a memorial scholarship fund to support youth in the sport of swimming that gave Jules so much joy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to that fund once established. More information to follow.

We always read together and a favorite author was Shel Silverstein, who captures our feelings now. “There are no happy endings. Endings are the saddest part. Just give me a happy middle and a very happy start.”
