Durango resident Jase Bridge Gething died in his sleep at home on Monday, July 6, 2009. He was 16. Jase was born to Michelle Taylor on Oct. 31, 1992. When he was 3, he was adopted by George and Victoria Gething. His family said he was adored as the youngest child with a lot of older siblings.Jase was friendly and had a great deal of compassion, his family said, even going on a mission trip with his older sister to Navajo Missions in Farmington in 2005. They taught Vacation Bible School and did landscaping and building maintenance.Jase was home-schooled by his mother.He enjoyed drawing and writing poems and songs. He was musically inclined and played the guitar and drums. He also enjoyed bowling, biking, hiking, river tubing and fishing with his dad. He loved hanging out with his family and friends and was often found with his dog, Bananas.His family said they will miss his beautiful smile, infectious laugh and great sense of humor."He had a loving heart, warm manner and was often helping others," they wrote.Jase is survived by his parents, George and Victoria Gething of Durango; birth mother, Michelle Taylor, of Ignacio; brothers Jonathan DuBois, Raymond Gething, Benjamin Gething, Levi Gething and Tony Gething, all of Durango, Trey Taylor of Ignacio, David G. Freeman of San Diego and Zachary Gething of Phoenix; sisters Jennie Weithorn, Monica Gething, Adriana Gething, Lanae Gething and Kaleah Gething, all of Durango, Natasha Taylor of Ignacio and Perla Gething of Colorado Springs; numerous nieces and nephews; and his grandparents.A visitation and slide show will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2009, at Hood Mortuary.A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Greenmount Cemetery. A celebration of life will take place at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at The River Church, 860 Plymouth Drive. A potluck will take place after the celebration.A memorial fund has been set up in his name at the Southwest Federal Credit Union, 15 Bodo Drive, Durango, CO 81303.
