Jason MacFarlane Obituary

Jason Graham MacFarlane (42) of Fairfax, Virginia, passed away suddenly of natural causes on August 29, 2025.

Jason was born in Houston, Texas, on February 12, 1983, to John and Anne Warren MacFarlane. A happy child with a big heart, Jason lived in Texas, Louisiana, Montana, New Jersey, and England before attending college. These moves cultivated in him a love for adventure and travel, a deep appreciation for different cultures, and an openness to challenge the status quo.

After graduating cum laude from The American School in Switzerland (TASIS) in England in 2001, Jason went on to attend Rice University where he graduated in 2005 with majors in Philosophy and Sociology. It was at Rice that Jason met fellow student Emery Ellis, and they wed in 2008.

Upon graduation, Jason began a 12-year career with Apple, advancing through several positions in Houston and Shanghai, China, before becoming the Store Leader for the New Orleans location. In 2017, he transitioned to Nike as a store manager in Maryland. In 2020, Jason joined Good360, a nonprofit dedicated to closing the need gap globally by facilitating corporate donations to nonprofit organizations. There, he rose to the position of Senior Vice President, where he excelled in supply chain leadership and operations, earning a reputation as a problem solver, team builder, mentor, and trivia master.

Above all else, Jason took pride in putting his family first. As a husband, he supported Emery in pursuing her own career aspirations, often taking on extra duties at home. Together, they enjoyed traveling in search of the world's most beautiful beaches, going on culinary adventures, watching golf, attending concerts, and binge-watching reality television of questionable quality. As a father to his beloved children Madeleine and Rhys, Jason enjoyed sharing with them his vast knowledge of so many things, and his love of music, movies, nature, swimming, Legos, and roller coasters.

Jason will be remembered by family and friends as a man of many talents and interests. He was a grill master and an accomplished cook who could replicate restaurant menu items without recipes. He was also a pool and dart player extraordinaire, an avid Boston Red Sox, New Orleans Saints, and Auburn Tigers fan, and served as the commissioner of a long-running fantasy football league with his close college friends. Jason was known for his colorful fashion sense, from his collection of tacky holiday sweaters to his watches, hats, and Nikes, and he loved helping select the theme for the family's yearly matching Halloween costumes.

Jason is survived by his wife Emery, and children Madeleine and Rhys of Fairfax; parents John and Anne MacFarlane of Great Falls; mother-in-law, Helen Ellis, and brother-in-law, Scotty Ellis, both of Texas; and extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on October 4, 2025, at McLean Baptist Church, McLean, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to The Fairfax Neonatal Associates NICU at Inova L.J. Murphy Children's Hospital where Rhys spent the first several weeks of his life.
