Albany – Jason J. Rice, age 102, of
Albany, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22, 2026, in Albany.
A lifelong resident of Albany, Jason was married to his beloved wife, Lois Dembo Rice, for 60 years until her passing. He was a proud graduate of the former Philip Schuyler High School.
Jason dedicated 45 years of his professional life as a printer for Capital Newspapers and was Vice President of the Albany Typographical Union #4. He later began a second career as an associate at Levine Memorial Chapel in Albany, where he faithfully served families for more than 50 years. He worked alongside his dear friend, Bob Levine, until Bob's passing in 1992, and continued with Mark and Jane Levine until his retirement.
Jason will long be remembered for his kind, caring, and gentle manner, which endeared him to so many. His compassion for others was unparalleled. His rich volunteer history included membership and leadership in numerous civic, fraternal, and religious organizations. He was a member and Past President of B'nai B'rith Gideon Lodge #140, involved with B'nai B'rith Parkview Apartments, the Independent Benevolent Society in Albany (where he was also a life member and Past President), Albany City Lodge #540 Knights of Pythias (life member), and the Congregation Beth Emeth Brotherhood. Jason was a past recipient of the prestigious Covenant Award presented by B'nai B'rith.
He also served as a board member of Congregation Beth Emeth, Jewish Family Services, and the Arbor Hill Community Center. A longtime member of the Albany County Democratic Committee, Jason proudly served as Ward Leader and President of the 14th Ward. He especially enjoyed Saturday morning gatherings at Democratic Headquarters with his many friends. For many years, he also served the City of Albany as a bingo inspector.
Jason found joy in playing golf and had been a member of Colonie Country Club. He also enjoyed attending the ballet and the opera, watching movies, and attending sporting events. Wherever he went, he was known, admired, and respected.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Nancy Rice (Paul Germain) of Albany; his grandchildren, Adam Rice (Jen), Kara Rice, and Haley Lobello (Anthony); and his great-grandchildren, Abigail, Isabelle, and Steven Rice. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Joanne Davidoff, and his cherished friends, Mark and Jane Levine.
In addition to his wife, Lois, he was predeceased by his son, Gary Rice; his brother, Arnold Rice (Marcia); and his dear friend, Rosalyn Coleman.
At the request of the family funeral services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Jason in a special way may make a memorial contribution to a
charity of their choice.
