Jason Earl Shonkwiler (Shonk), age 50, of Clovis, NM passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Jason was born on June 7, 1973, to Roger and Virginia Shonkwiler at Beale Air Force Base, CA. Jason married Jennifer Urias on December 30, 1993, in Clovis, NM. Jason always had an interest in cars and was a great part of the auto community. Jason began his automotive career at Sears when he was still in high school and provided over 20 years of service. This would lead Jason and his family to move throughout Texas and Georgia, while eventually coming back home to Clovis, NM. After leaving Sears, Jason started his own business, where he sold, serviced, and installed shop equipment for various automotive shops throughout New Mexico and Texas. Jason was always a people person and took care of everyone, building relationships and finding a connection with everyone he met. Jason's hobbies included anything car related, such as working on vehicles and participating in car shows, listening to music, and spending quality time with family. Jason was a Chevy man, and his favorite band was Metallica. Jason's hardworking hands are now at rest, and he will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife; Jennifer Shonkwiler of the home, children; Matthew Shonkwiler, Eric Shonkwiler, and Rachel Shonkwiler, granddaughter; Peyton Shonkwiler, parents; Roger and Virginia Shonkwiler all of Clovis, NM, siblings; Joshua (Anna) Shonkwiler of Spring Branch, TX, Jeremy (Jennifer) Shonkwiler of Fort Worth, TX, and Jacob (Bianca) Shonkwiler of West, TX, and extended family, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later time.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Muffley Funeral Home, www.muffleyfuneralhome.com, (575) 762-4435.

So sorry to Jason´s family. I think he may have been the one Shonkwiler boys I never met as an adult. I guess we would´ve been 3rd cousins? His grandmother Rhoda was my great Aunt and I knew her well. Sounds like he had the mechanical abilities that so many of the men on his maternal grandmothers side had! Lots of talented mechanics! So very sad and so difficult to lose your loved one too soon. My heart and prayers go out to all of you!

It was always a pleasure to see "Shonk's" truck pull into our parking lot. When he was here, you went looking for him. Jason would always put a smile on your face or brighten your day. Jason was a great man. Not only was he a great man, he was awesome at his job, he could fix anything, and when he was done, it was done right. The greatest lesson I will remember from Jason and witnessed was the love for his family. You never know a man's true strength until he is tested. Jason fought an amazing fight. He showed great strength in all he did. What an amazing example for us to always do our best, never give up no matter what, and love those we encounter. I am honored to have known Jason and will miss him.
