It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Jason Don Stapel, a fiercely loving husband, devoted father, and unforgettable friend, who left us too soon on Monday, April 28, 2025 at the age of 48.
Born on December 16, 1976 in Phillipsburg, the son of Billie Junior and Hilda Marie (Nonhof) Stapel, with a spark that could light up any room-and sometimes stir it up a bit-Jason was a man of strong opinions, quick wit, and a heart that knew no limits. He was ornery in the best of ways: never afraid to speak his mind, challenge the status quo, or give you a hard time just to see you smile. You always knew where you stood with him-and more importantly, that you were loved.
He found joy in the simple, sacred things-nothing more so than a rain storm falling on a freshly plowed field. He poured his soul into the land, and it gave back more than crops-it gave him peace and some stress too. Watching a storm roll in across the fields, boots planted in the dirt and hat pulled low, he was truly in his element.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Becky, who was his rock, his equal, and the love of his life. Together they built a life full of laughter, loyalty, and deep-rooted love. He also leaves behind two beautiful children, Clint & Megan, who were the center of his world. His pride in them was boundless, his love for them unmatched.
Other survivors include his mother Hilda Stapel; brother David Stapel and wife Jean; sister Danette Lyon and husband Lynn, all of Phillipsburg; along with many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Billie; father-in-law Norman Chanley; and an infant sister Hollye Ann.
A celebration of Jason's life will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2025 at the United Presbyterian Church, Phillipsburg, with Robert Wood officiating. The services will be streamed on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.
Friends may sign the book on Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillipsburg Chapter of the FFA.
Jason lived fully, laughed loudly, and loved fiercely. Whether he was cracking a joke, lending a helping hand, or fiercely defending those he cared about, he did it all with heart. His presence was bold and his absence will be deeply felt.
