Gary Lynn Kemper, Phillips County resident, passed away August 19, 2025, at the age of 80 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, Kansas. He was born June 6, 1945, the son of Leonard and Aleene (Cox) Kemper.

On May 3, 1968, Gary married Ellen Fay Gaines in the St. Peters Lutheran Church of Logan. To this union two daughters were born, Brenda and Wanda.

Gary and Ellen Fay have lived more than 50 years in Phillipsburg. For the past 3 years Gary has been living in the Smith Center Health and Rehab Center where he loved to play Bingo and was very active in the different activities.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Wanda, sister, Gayla Norton, brothers-in-law Earl, Aaron, and Marvin Gaines of Logan.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Fay and daughter Brenda Klavis (Jim) of St. Augustine, FL. His grandchildren include Jessica Stone (Michael) of Sarasota, FL, Alexandra Sorokos (James) of Largo, FL and great grandchild Carter James Sorokos. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and three nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 23, 2025 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin, KS.

Mr. Kemper will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, where the family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Lynn Kemper Memorial Fund c/o Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel.
