Javier Fontan Obituary

Born in the Bronx on March 26, 1970, Javi was the youngest of five children to Rosa Fontan and the late Eugenio Fontan. A proud Puerto Rican and genuine Bronx original, he was a devoted son, a beloved baby brother, and everyone's favorite uncle.
Though he never had children of his own, Javi treated his nieces and nephews like his own-with boundless love, encouragement, and laughter. He had a profound sense of loyalty and family that extended far beyond blood ties. If Javi considered you family, you felt it in the way he showed up for you, day in and day out.
A diehard Yankees and Giants fan, a boxing enthusiast, and the go-to DJ for every family gathering, Javi brought joy and energy wherever he went. Whether it was salsa, freestyle, 80s, or 90s hip-hop, he had the perfect track to lift the mood and get people dancing. His music brought people together, but so did his presence.
Javi had a rare gift: the ability to connect with anyone. His laugh was big and infectious, his sense of humor unforgettable, and his heart wide open. He could strike up a conversation with anyone-young or old, stranger or friend-and make them feel welcome. His spirit was inclusive, joyful, and filled with love.
As a confirmed Catholic, Javi's faith was evident in the way he lived-through kindness, humility, and the way he united others. He welcomed everyone, judged no one, and loved fiercely.
Javi is survived by his mother, Rosa Fontan; his siblings; his adored nieces and nephews; and the countless friends and extended family who were lucky enough to be part of his life. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugenio Fontan.
His memory will live on in the music he played, the laughter he shared, and the many lives he touched. He will be missed more than words can express.

Oh Javi, I couldn´t believe it when I heard you had passed. It was so shocking, and my heart sank. I had been thinking of calling you these past few weeks... and now you´re gone. I´m so sorry... if only I knew...
I will always cherish the moments we shared-your kindness, your laughter, your support, and your love. You were so giving, so selfless, so full of life, and so young. It is so very sad and so unfair that you´re already gone.
I am heartbroken that I didn´t get to call you. I so wish I had. I will forever miss hearing your voice and being able to reach out.
You will always live in my heart, and I will carry your memory with me for the rest of my days. I will forever miss you. I love you always.

Javi, as we gather to honor your life, I reflect on the countless cherished moments we shared. Our unforgettable summers in the Bronx will forever hold a special place in my heart. From attending Yankee games to savoring White Castle burgers and enjoying the warmth of the fire escape while listening to freestyle music, each memory is a testament to the bond we shared.

Javi you will always be thought of during every get together.
Whenever I turn on my PlayStation I will always see my brother sitting next to me laughing and encouraging me in my favorite games or getting ready to grab the remote from me ...
Whenever I drive by people in the street and wave with a silly grin to make them wonder if they know me I will see my bro who encouraged that behavior right next to me.
When I think of boxing I will think of the rides to the Bronx when we were younger
When I think of my favorite movies I'll remember hanging out at the movie theater after it closed to hang out and watch them on the big screen.
When I think of riding around with the windows down and the dogs on the back seat and the music playing just to enjoy the time of course you will be sitting next to me in my mind.
Every time a joke is said, I will think of sending it to you to share my laughter.
When I'm angry at someone I'm aware that it will take a very long time before I do not go to tell you first.
And although I have the same type of friendship ,love, support, comradarie , and just plain laughter around me in a very tight circle , your place in my heart and in my life cannot be filled.
You shared your birthday march 26th with my wedding day and I'll never forget that you gave up your celebration to attend my last minute plans and be there for me.
You shared every year since then with me even if we hadn't talked in months including your last birthday and I feel so happy I have that video.
Brother you will live on in our lives for sure.
You will always be loved and thought of and therefore alive.
Your life force is so strong and your soul shines so bright it will never even be dim.
