Jay & Mary Cawley

Jay and Mary Cawley lived in Downers Grove from 1966-1983 along with their three children, Michael, Jan and Tim. Jay died this past July in Lincoln, Nebraska where he and Mary moved in 2014 in order to be closer to their only grandchild. Mary died 2020. Both were born and raised in Detroit where Mary worked as a secretary for Holley Carburetor. They moved to La Grange Park in 1956 when Jay began working in marketing for Sears. As the kids left the house Mary volunteered at a daycare nursery and Little Friends Sheltered Workshop. When Jay retired, they moved to Florida where they both spent almost 30 years volunteering for a local hospice. Both were also avid bowlers, dancers and readers. Mary played golf, baked and gardened. Jay's passions were photography and computers. They are survived by eldest son, Michael and his wife, Georgia (nee Bushman) now in Florida; daughter, Jan (now in Los Angeles); youngest son, Tim, his wife, Debra, and daughter, Abby; as well as Jay's sister Valerie Sprader (in Michigan).
