Jay Anderson, beloved by family and friends, is being mourned by Shirley, his spouse of 67 years; his three children: Steven, Christine (Martin) Geisel, and Curtis (Barbara); two grandchildren, Rachel Carlson and Leah Geisel; and several great grandchildren.

Jay was born at home to parents, Andrew Martin Anderson and Thyra Jensen Anderson on March 14, 1930. He was one of nine siblings, four boys and five girls, all of whom predeceased him. They all grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah where Jay graduated from high school.

Jay continued his education at the University of Utah and graduated with a B.S. Degree. He became a teacher and then a principal at Bickel Elementary in Twin Falls. He went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Washington State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951- 1953. Later he worked for Scott Foresman in the field of educational publications.

Jay had a beautiful tenor voice and sang with college choruses, and the Utah Symphony. He soloed with the Utah Tabernacle Choir in their 1947 Pioneer Centennial Celebration. Later in Twin Falls he sang leading roles in the Twin Falls Dilettante Society productions.

Jay loved the out-of-doors. He enjoyed playing tennis and golf, riding horses, and traveling too. In retirement, that love for life, and the world in general, took Jay and Shirley to Denmark and the island of Bornholm, Prince Edward Island, Canada, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, and several countries in Europe.

Jay’s hobbies included building things. He designed and built two cabins in the Stanley Basin and the cabinetry that went into them. He also assisted his daughter and son-in-law when they built a home in the Utah Valley.

Jay was community minded and served on the Buhl School District Board. For a  time, he was a member of Buhl Rotary Club. He also belonged to the Buhl Country Club.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2024 at West End Cemetery, 1574 E Elm St, Buhl. An Open House will follow from 12:00- 1:30p.m. at the Clear Lake Country Club, 403 Clear Lake Ln, Buhl. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Buhl School District Foundation for needy students in Music and Arts, 920 Main St, Buhl.

Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on Jay’s memorial webpage at www.farmerfuneralchapel.com.
